At Clínica Traña we have a specialised team with extensive experience in pelvic health. We are pioneers in Costa Rica in functional, comprehensive assessments with ultrasound, using advanced technology and an evidence-based approach. This evaluation is the fundamental first step before starting any treatment.

1. Informed consent

On arrival, you will receive an informed consent form that clearly explains every step. Nothing is done without your authorisation, and all care is given with respect and professionalism.

2. Clinical interview

The assessment begins with a conversation of about 20 to 30 minutes to understand your clinical history, symptoms, background and personal goals. This information allows us to understand your situation individually.

3. Abdominal and pelvic floor physical assessment

The abdomen is reviewed, especially after previous surgery or pregnancy. Muscle activation, possible dysfunction or adhesions are assessed, and scars are examined when present.

Pelvic floor assessment then follows and may include:

  • External palpation at perineal level.
  • Internal assessment (vaginal or rectal, depending on the case), always with prior consent. This examination is similar to a gynaecological or urological review, but without a speculum.

In this phase we assess pelvic floor muscle function and related structures such as bladder, urethra, rectum and internal walls.

4. Functional ultrasound of the pelvic floor and abdomen

We are a reference in the use of functional ultrasound (RUSI – Rehabilitative Ultrasound Imaging), a non-invasive tool that shows how deep muscles and pelvic structures behave.

  • Ultrasound is performed externally (vulvar or abdominal).
  • It is not a gynaecological or urological diagnostic tool, but a functional one.
  • It allows us to observe diastasis, muscle synergies, scars and dysfunction, and to plan treatment more precisely.

We have more than 7 years of experience using this technique systematically.

5. Results and treatment plan

At the end of the assessment, all findings are explained clearly and a treatment plan or the most suitable recommendations for your case are established.
