Caesarean scar

After a caesarean it is important to review the scar. As physiotherapists we assess whether it shows fibrosis (excess fibrous tissue) or adhesions (limited scar mobility).

After a caesarean it is important to review the scar. As physiotherapists we assess whether it shows fibrosis (excess fibrous tissue) or adhesions (limited scar mobility). These can cause pain or pulling in the lower abdomen and nearby areas.

Physical therapy uses specific techniques such as:

Tecar therapy: aiming at adequate tissue regeneration, more blood flow and oxygenation. And manual techniques such as myofascial release and scar massage to release retraction so the scar has more mobility.

Dry needling: to break up fibrous tissue.

Manual techniques: to improve tissue mobility.

Remember that working on a scar is not only about appearance; it is also about function.
